YouTube for Android is getting an official dark theme soon

Google is adding an option for users to toggle the overwhelming white YouTube app dark with an update rolling out today.

We spotted YouTube making progress in that direction early this year, as settings for a dark mode started to include more and more of the app's UI elements.

YouTube's update is reportedly being done to reduce glare and give the app a more "cinematic view" as its users consume videos and even movies on the platform.

YouTube has announced today its iOS and Android apps are finally getting access to a "Dark Theme", which has been available on its desktop version of the site (but hard to find).

Unfortunately for now, the new dark theme will be arriving on the YouTube iOS app only at first, though the company noted that it will be arriving on Android "soon" too. Well like we said, right now the mobile roll-out has only just begun, and so far it's only hitting iOS-this follows the desktop launch of dark mode past year. Regardless, we'll be letting you know the moment we catch wind of it going live.
