He is set become Denver's new starter at the position when free agency opens Wednesday and the deal becomes official, according to a person familiar with the situation.

A breakdown of the Denver Broncos' 2018 free-agent signings. Looks like winning Super Bowl 50 came with a prominent voice along with a sweet ring.

The 30-year-old Keenum is considered the second-best QB available on the open market.

However, with the Vikings one of the major contenders for Kirk Cousins' signature, Keenum has been looking to cash in on his status of last year's stellar campaign and the Broncos look to be his landing spot.

Statistically, Keenum was one of the better quarterbacks in the league despite not starting a full season, ranking second in the NFL in completion percentage and 12th in touchdown passes.

After the Vikings decided not to franchise tag Case Keenum, Keenum is an unrestricted free agent. That list is now trimmed down to the Jets, Vikings and Cardinals.

First and foremost, the Trevor Siemian era is over in Denver.

But it was Siemian, a seventh-rounder from Northwestern, who emerged as Manning's surprise successor in 2016.

Siemian again handily beat out Lynch last summer, but the Broncos would cycle through their trio of homegrown QBs during a 5-11 season that almost cost rookie head coach Vance Joseph his job. It's clear Broncos senior personnel advisor Gary Kubiak, who coached Keenum for two seasons with the Houston Texans, had some influence in this decision.

In Denver, he'll again have a solid defense and extremely talented weapons at receiver in Demarius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.

That included choosing among the draft prospects that include Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield and others.

Unless it's some kind of insane contract, this is a better idea for the Broncos than Kirk Cousins. I thought they needed the right guy to pick the right guy. "Obviously, we have to get better at that (quarterback) position".

Last year, however, he experienced a big leap. There were some things we should have done, that we should have done differently that we didn't do.
