Lecturer shot dead in college premises in Haryana's Sonipat distt

Police sources said the victim, Malik, aged between 35 to 50 years, was sitting in one of the rooms when the accused student, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, walked in, fired four shots at him and fled.

The government college is located in village Pipli of Kharkhoda, Sonipat district where the incident took place.

The accused was identified as Jagmal, a BA II year student, the police said.

"Today's incident took place at about 11 am". Preliminary investigations conducted by police revealed that a country-made weapon was used by the assailant, who fired three bullets that hit Rajesh Malik.

The accused fled the spot after firing shots at the lecturer, police said.

A police officer said that the lecturer had reprimanded Jagmal after a girl student complained that he had harassed her. On the other hand, The Times of India has reported that the lecturer had caught the accused and the girl on the last bench of the class and scolded them. However, the exact details behind the incident will come to the fore after a post-mortem of the body.
