Nicaraguan police arrest former boyfriend in Binghamton nursing student's death

Authorities say a man is under arrest in connection with the homicide of a college student from Long Island, 22-year-old Haley Anderson.

ABC News reported Nicaragua National Police had confirmed the 22-year-old Tercero had been arrested Tuesday afternoon.

Tercero is suspected of killing Anderson, a 22-year-old student at BU, and fled to Nicaragua on an global flight, the Binghamton Police Department said on Monday.

Investigators initially named Anderson's former boyfriend, also a nursing student at SUNY Binghamton, as a person of interest in her murder, although they did not immediately release his identity.

Anderson's body was found in a Binghamton off-campus home by police around 1 p.m. Friday. Authorities ruled her death a homicide on Saturday.

"This incident and the circumstances of the death [were] not a random act or involving the conduct of a stranger", the statement read. Tercero is a USA citizen, they noted.

The two were students at the Decker School of Nursing and were previously in a relationship.

"Every day, we work to protect Broome County residents, and those living in our community", Cornwell wrote.
