The Shiv Sena on Tuesday asked how Narayan Rane be the ally BJP's candidate for Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra when he is not a member of the saffron party.

The party's choice for two Rajya Sabha seats from the State has not gone down well with the cadres as more than 20 leaders were lobbying for a nomination.

Extending support to Valera is seen as a tactical move of the Congress to save its second seat in case there is any threat to Rathwa's candidature.

The BJP nominated businessman Rajeev Chandrasekhar as its candidate from Karnataka on Sunday. Sources said Congress's Kumar Ketkar and NCP's sitting MP Vandana Chavan were in the danger zone now. "Those with hardly any numbers had fielded their candidate thus it was made a decision to field nine candidates as we have votes of 28 additional MLAs and we believe that all those who believe in the democracy of this country would support us and ensure victory of our 9 candidates", said Mahendra Nath Pandey, BJP State President, after filing of nomination of ninth candidate Anil Agarwal. L.Hanumanthaiah, Syed Naseer Hussain and G.C. Chandrashekar-for the 23 March Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka in what seems to be a carefully planned caste balance strategy from the party.

Today was the last date for scrutiny of nominations while March 15 is the last day for withdrawal of candidature.

Goyal said the BJP delegation informed the EC about?irregularities? in nomination forms of Rathwa and also Valera.

Among the seven nominations accepted was BJP's dummy candidate Rajnikant Patel. "Rathwa had served as a central minister and the no-dues certificate he submitted was a fake one", alleged Vaghani.

At a press conference on the sidelines of the ongoing budget session of the state Assembly here, senior Congress leader Karan Singh Dalal said he had filed a complaint with the Returning Officer, demanding nomination papers of Vats be rejected.

Senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil told the media: "In the end, it is Satyameva Jayate (victory for truth)".
