Toyota has announced that the all-new, fifth-generation 2019 RAV4 will make its world debut on Wednesday, March 28, at the 2018 New York International Auto Show-and provided us with a teaser image, featuring the upcoming vehicle's silhouette, to help us with the wait.

The new SUV will be Toyota's offering in a hotly contested market, facing rivals including the Peugeot 3008, Skoda Kodiaq, Mazda CX-5 and Volkswagen Tiguan.

At the front you can see Toyota's new-look protruding grille and its upper edge, likely paired with a set of thinner and angular headlights with LED daytime running lights towards the inner edge.

It seems unlikely Toyota will offer a diesel option in the new RAV4, but it is likely it will be offered with a choice of hybrid power plants including the new 2.0 litre hybrid, as well as Toyota's new 2.0 litre petrol. Four-wheel drive is likely to be optional. On Tuesday, it was the turn of another Japanese automaker to steale the spotlight by previewing what new model it present for the first time.

Entering its fifth generation, the revamped RAV4 will sit on Toyota's TGNA platform, which now underpins the latest Camry, Prius, and C-HR and will likely serve as the foundation for most of the automaker's cars in the future.

It is thought that it will be built on Toyota's new TGNA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that underpins the C-HR, Prius and the new Auris, which was revealed at last week's Geneva Motor Show.
