Things Chelsea must do to beat Barcelona

They are moments that we have to suffer.

Messi remains at the heart of it all.

12 - Andres Iniesta, Barcelona's captain, has provided the assist for 12 of Messi's 100 goals in the Champions League, with Dani Alves his nearest rival on nine. The Blues will need to win by a minimum scoreline of 1-0, no mean feat when one takes into account the opposition and the venue.

Costa posted a picture of Chelsea's line-up graphic on his Instagram page, but notably he had scrubbed out Conte's name from the image. If he hadn't, the goal would not have been scored. "We have a very important game, too important to deviate to other topics". But in the minds of the socios of Barcelona, it was not in the balance at all. If we lose, we'll be cantering towards the end of a season to forget.

Now, with Philippe Coutinho (who is cup-tied for this game) and Ousmane Dembele available for selection, it raises a question as to whether the Barcelona coach can afford to mix things up tactically and push for a more attacking brand of play.

Chelsea felt they should have had a penalty in the second half when Marco Alonso was brought down in the box, only for the referee to wave away their appeals.

The most recent official meeting between both teams was in the 2011/2012 season when a late strike from Chelsea's Fernando Torres kicked Barcelona out of the race and delivered the Champions League title to Chelsea for the first time. "We know here the pitch is big and we have to stay together and try as hard as we cannot to concede goals and to go for the counter-attack as well", Willian told the club's website (www.chelseafc.com).

The former Shakhtar Donetsk player said they (Chelsea) have some level for Barcelona players, but are resolute to getting the job done before returning to England after the match.

Never was that more apparent than when they broke to score their decisive third goal. It would be interesting to see the 2018 version of that contest.

By contrast, opposite number Ernesto Valverde has gone from seemingly managing a damage-control operation at the start of the campaign to being on course for a sensational treble.

But those are questions that may be asked another day. "Then, when we have the ball, we must have the feeling in our heads to try and create a chance to score". On planet football, they remain the greatest draw of all.
