Key differences between the Maybach and Mercedes-Benz versions of the SUV are likely to include subtle exterior tweals like the grille, wheels and badging, along with a "significantly more luxurious interior".

"We have been quietly surprised by the sales success of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which is proving extremely popular in many key markets", a "high-level official" told the British publication. Inspired by the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept, it features a narrow pinstripe design and totally dominates the front of the vehicle.

Also on offer are exquisite two-tone paint finishes, and minimalist 20-inch wheels with a 10-hole design - ideal for the heads of state and royal families set to be escorted around in the huge limousine.

The major change to the interior in this refresh is the addition of three new colour options exclusive to the Pullman - magma grey, mahogany brown and silk beige/deep sea blue.

No auto 6.5 metres long overall is going to have rear legroom problems; there's enough space for two individual business-class executive chairs facing forward, and two slightly less sybaritic seats facing aft, so that your staff can keep you updated on the way to your next function. New for 2018 is a front-view camera, allowing rear passengers to monitor the direction of travel even when the partition between driver and passenger compartments is closed.

There's also a revised version of the V12 engine available in the vehicle. It makes 630bhp and an incredible 1000Nm of torque - 100bhp and 170Nm more than the outgoing model. This allows the vehicle to get from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.5s while the top speed can be expected to be limited to 250 kmph.

Order books for the new 2018 Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Pullman start today, 15 March 2018, with prices starting from around £442,000.
