United Kingdom man dies after getting head trapped in movie seat

Emergency crews managed to restart the man's heart and he was taken to the Heartlands Hospital in the city.

According to the Birmingham Mail, the man had dropped his phone and was trying to retrieve it in between the theatre's Gold Class seats at the end of the film.

The unidentified man was reportedly at Vue Cinema in Birmingham in the United Kingdom when he was trying to retrieve his phone after it dropped between the new Gold Class seats at the end of a movie, The Mirror reported.

The man's partner frantically tried to free him and staff rushed to help as he was crushed last week, witnesses told Birmingham Live.

A statement released by Vue Cinema today confirmed that the man died in hospital on Friday March 16, one week after the accident occurred.

A source said when the man bent down to find his phone the leg rest was in an upright position.

The incident occurred last week at a Vue Cinemas, a popular theater chain in the United Kingdom and Ireland.


The footrest was eventually broken and lifted from his head, but the man suffered serious injuries, the local news site said.

They added: "He was stuck and panicking".

"The ambulance had already been called and was at the scene at this time, and took him to hospital".

"But as he stuck his head underneath to have a look, the footrest clamped down onto his head".

'We are saddened to learn that he passed away on Friday 16 March.

Environmental Health and Vue are investigating the incident.
