At the start of Enterprise's first season, Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz portrayed Paul Stamets and Hugh Culber, the first same-sex couple in a Star Trek TV series.

The most recently revealed addition to the cast is comedian Tig Notaro.

Tig Notaro has signed on to the cast of CBS All-Access' Star Trek: Discovery, according to a report by Variety. In the Star Trek video game Starfleet Command, and Akula-class starship with the same name is mentioned as serving Starfleet in the 23rd century, the era in whichStar Trek: Discovery is set.

Notaro has previously appeared on Fresh Off the Boat and Transparent, and starred in the semi-autobiographical Amazon series One Mississippi, which she wrote, produced and directed. With the show long since renewed for Season 2, casting is underway. Notaro, meanwhile, has been working on new Mark Wahlberg comedy Instant Family, due in cinemas in 2019. The plot of the next season is expected to explore how the new ship fits into the story of the original series.
