Vinod Khanna honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Vinod Khanna's funeral took place in Malabar Hills in Mumbai and was attended by his co-stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and other celebrities from the film fraternity. He went from being villain to a hero - really wonderful guy.

While announcing the recipient of India's highest film award, the National Film Awards jury mentioned Khanna's work.

And so it is that the 65th National Film Awards, often under fire for ignoring the mainstream Hindi film industry, on Friday posthumously recognised two of its leading lights, Vinod Khanna and Sridevi, by conferring them the Dadasaheb Phalke and Best Actress awards respectively.

Jayraj was named the best director and the best adapted screenplay writer for his Malayalam film Bhayanakam.

Apart from Chandni, Vinod Khanna and Sridevi have also shared screen space in films like Pathar Ke Insan and Farishtay.

Sridevi, whose filmography spanned across 50 years in 300 films, was recognised for her role in movie "Mom". The best actor recognition went to Riddhi Sen for the Bengali film Nagarkirtan.

"This is a very important day for me, and an equally important award".

The Bahubali also fetched the best special effects award to RC Kamalakannan and best action direction award to Abbas Ali Moghul.

Best choreography award went to Bollywood veteran Ganesh Acharya for song "Gori Tu Latth Maar" in Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha'. When I stepped out of my village, I had the desire of winning a national award someday. "Today, it has finally come true", Dutta told PTI. Mhorkya, a Marathi film, was adjudged the best children's film, while the best Marathi film award went to Kaccha Limbu. The film was also recognised for original screenplay, while the best dialogues went to Odiya film "Hello Arsi". Best Film on Environment Conservation is Irada and Best Film on Social Issues is Aalorukkam.

The list, also includes Best Male Playback Singer for Yesudas for Poy Maranja Kalam from Viswasapoorvam Mansoor while the award for best Child Artist was bagged by Anita Das for 'The Village Rockstar'. Malayalam film director Jayaraj has bagged the best director award.
