The BJP today announced 82 candidates, including elder brother of tainted mining baron G Janardhan Reddy and son of late chief minister S Bangarappa, for the Karnataka Assembly polls, taking to 154 the number of constituencies for which it has declared its nominees.

The party president Asaduddin Owaisi said it has chose to support the JD (S) after "due consideration and consultations". As per the deal, the chief ministership was to be shared between Kumaraswamy and BS Yeddyurappa for an equal period of time.

According to Owaisi, his party feels that both the national parties, the BJP and Congress, have failed to live up to the expectations and hope of the people of Karnataka and that's why they have chose to support the JD (S) completely.

Karnataka came under President's rule, which was revoked on 7 November after JD (S) and the BJP made a decision to continue with the alliance and make Yeddyurappa the chief minister. I will address public meetings in support of the JD (S) if there is need,"Owaisi said". He said after the Karnataka polls, even in the Lok Sabha elections next year, there would be a non-Congress and non-BJP alliance in power.

".people of the country are fed up with BJP governance and Congress is not a viable option, neither it can become one", said Owaisi. I had a talk with Kumaraswamy.

The AIMIM's entry into Karnataka electoral politics was expected to eat into Congress' vote share that draws its support from AHINDA (an acronym for Minorities, Backward Classes and Dalits) of which Muslims form a huge chunk.

Political analyst Narayana A, faculty at Azim Premji University, said in the first-past-the-post system, none of these coalitions could be taken lightly.

"I hope people of Karnataka would once again repose faith in the JDS so that a qualitative change can be brought in Karnataka".
