Binghamton Stabbing Victim Identified

The university, part of the State University of NY, alerted students to the cancellation hours after an unidentified 19-year-old male freshman was stabbed to death on campus Sunday night. Officials say Souza's family has been notified and has requested privacy.

According to reports, the stabbing happened in Windham Hall on Binghamton's campus around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.

The school, one of the four university centers in New York's sprawling state university system, canceled classes on Monday due the 'tragic event.' Counseling was being offered to students and staff. Classes will resume on Tuesday. In a statement, BU spokesman Ryan Yarosh said that the stabbing does not appear to be a random act.

A press conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. He's described as a "light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and dark hoodie".

Furthermore, the school is offering counseling services.

BU says the victim was a 19-year-old male first-year student. Additional details will be provided as soon as possible.

At this time, investigators from multiple agencies are interviewing people and searching areas of the campus around Windham Hall.

Binghamton University's website says that the suspect fled after the stabbing and now remains at large. Stay with 18 NEWS for the latest on this breaking news story. The suspect ran away and is described as a "light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and dark hoodie". Police remained on the scene overnight.
