The singer had meant to keep her diagnosis a private matter but made a decision to go public after an ex-boyfriend had threatened to go public.

The former Eurovision victor, real name Tom Neuwirth, spoke for the first time on Monday about their HIV status in an emotional German-language Instagram post.

Conchita wrote that she has been receiving medical treatment for many years and that she is feeling healthy and strong.

"I did not want to go public with it for a couple of reasons so far, I just want to mention two of them here: The most important one was my family, which has known and supported me unconditionally since day one". Moreover, it could no longer be detected in her blood and could not be passed on.

"Coming out is better than being outed by someone else".

The publish concludes: "to my followers: the details about my hiv standing could also be new to you - my standing will not be!"

"I hope to give others courage and to take another step against the stigmatization of people who, through their own behaviour or that of others, have become infected with HIV", the singer declared. "Thank you for your support!"

Ian Inexperienced, chief govt of the Terrence Higgins Trust, which campaigns on and offers companies regarding HIV, stated: "The choice to speak brazenly about your HIV standing needs to be a private one and never taken away or ever, ever used as a risk".

"Threatening to reveal someone's HIV status, under any circumstances, is entirely wrong". What different well being situation can be used as blackmail towards somebody?

Eurovision song contest victor Conchita Wurst has revealed that she is HIV positive and has been receiving regular treatment for "several years". And we all know this is not one thing which exclusively occurs to these within the public eye.
