Manchester City Clinches Premier League Title

Manchester City players were not expecting Jose Mourinho's men to lose at home to West Brom and Kompany watched the game with his family, rather than with his team-mates.

The Blues secured the title after Manchester United fell to a 1-0 defeat against West Brom.

City's supporters are now discovering that winning the title without even playing, courtesy of West Bromwich Albion's unexpected 1-0 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday, does nothing to diminish the joy of planting your flag at the summit while the rest look on enviously below you.

Kompany, whose return to regular fitness has been a key factor in City's success this season, said there could be no talk of domination after they won a first league title since 2014.

'Against Tottenham [the players] showed me how strong they were.

It was a tribute to Ferguson's team-building genius that, just two seasons after the departure of the talismanic Eric Cantona, United were once again at the summit - this time thanks to legendary "Class of '92" graduates Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers.

Despite blowing the chance to win the league against United last weekend, City still matched United's record by claiming the title with five games to spare.

It is Abu Dhabi-owned City's third title in seven seasons.

He and Mourinho are old rivals from their time in Spain when the United boss managed Real Madrid.

"I trust in my work, that is for sure - I have no reason not to trust", he said.

They could yet beat three significant Premier League landmarks set by Chelsea - the highest points tally of 95 in 2004-2005, the most wins in a season at 30 in 2016-2017 and the most goals scored at 103 in 2009-2010. I know how to win and I believe in myself.

"It's the same feeling as the first time, you can't describe it", he said.

Guardiola's men were on course to drop points in two of their opening three games until Sterling's 97th-minute victor at Bournemouth back in August kicked off an 18-match winning run in the league.

"Everything must be consistent until the last day".

"It is one title and we are all delighted but there is a lot more to do to unlock our full potential".

The second half was not much better but Foster did wonderfully well after 66 minutes to tip a Lukaku effort around the post before the visitors resistance was then unexpectedly rewarded with 17 minutes remaining.

Rodriguez netted the victor in the 72nd minute.

"I've seen many teams win it where they've been champions all season and it's a first for me".

Lukaku saw one shot cannon back off the face of West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster, while Pogba's desire to make a difference saw him booked after half an hour for attempting to steer the ball into the net with a very obvious, very deliberate handball.
