Overseer of 'Russian Probe' Rod Rosenstein prepares to be fired by Trump

The ad highlights special counsel Robert Mueller's career accomplishments and testimonials from Republican leadership expressing their confidence in Mueller's integrity and the need for his investigation to proceed.

As his lawyers went to court in NY on Friday to try to block prosecutors from reading files that were seized from the personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, this week, Trump found himself increasingly isolated in mounting a response.

Asked on Monday why he didn't fire Mueller, Trump replied, "If you know the person in charge of the investigation, you know about that, Deputy Rosenstein, Rod Rosenstein".

Trump has reportedly tried to fire Mueller in the past and has been considering firing Rosenstein, The Hill reported. "Now is a crucial moment for Republicans to follow the lead of Senators Thom Tillis, Lindsay Graham, Orrin Hatch, and Chuck Grassley, and speak with one voice urging President Trump to allow the investigation to continue unimpeded".

Trump continued his attack on Wednesday, criticizing Rosenstein on Twitter for having approved an Federal Bureau of Investigation request for a warrant to monitor Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser.

"As for Rod Rosenstein, I don't see a basis for firing him in his handling of this probe", Gowdy said.
