Plane crashes near Crozet, killing one

The emergency communication center was flooded with calls from people who heard an explosion just before 9 p.m.

"Rescue crews are having a hard time accessing the site due to terrain", Lynne Vogt with WVIR tweeted.

One body was found in the wreckage and the cause of the crash is under investigation, according to state police spokesperson Corinne Geller.

One person was hospitalized after a small plane crashed near Cimarron Hills Sunday afternoon.

The remains of the victim will be transferred to the Office of the Medical Examiner for autopsy, examination and positive identification.

Constitution eastbound from Tutt Blvd will be closed for about 7-15 hours while the FAA investigates the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the crash, police said.
