"The White House says its certainty about a chemical attack by Damascus relies on the media, on reports about symptoms, videos and photos, and also on credible information." she said.

Russia's Foreign Minister on Friday asserted that a suspected chemical attack in the Syrian town of Douma last weekend was fabricated with the help of an unspecified foreign intelligence agency.

The Russians accused the White Helmets and "other pseudo-humanitarian organizations headquartered in the United Kingdom and U.S." of working "hand in glove with terrorists" to provoke military action against Syrian dictator Bashar Assad.

Separately, Russia's Defence Ministry said the majority of missiles fired during the overnight attack on Syria by U.S., British and French forces were intercepted by Syrian government air defence systems, TASS news agency reported.

The United States is discussing with allies a military response to an alleged gas attack by Syrian government forces on the town of Douma that killed dozens of people, which could lead to confrontation with Russian Federation.

Russian Federation and the United States are using their channels of communications on Syria, according to the minister.

Immediately after the attack, Russia's ambassador in Washington Anatoly Antonov issued a statement saying: "The worst apprehensions have come true".

"A pre-designed scenario is being implemented. We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences". "The US - the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons - has no moral right to blame other countries".

"It's.highly likely an attempt to create complications for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) mission which was just starting its work in Syria's Douma, or an attempt to completely derail it", Interfax quoted Kosachev as saying.

The Russian Defence Ministry said Saturday that none of the Western strikes in Syria had hit areas near to Russia's air and naval bases.

The US Department of State has not commented if Russian Federation had been notified of the strikes.A department official told TASS that nothing could be said at this point.
