This update does bring in some new additions to OnePlus Launcher as well as Gaming Mode, while also bumping up the Android security patch level to April 1, 2018. Like in the case of all other updates, the OnePlus has pushed the new update in a phased manner and hence it will take few days for the new software bits to appear on your handset.

With only a few days left for the official launch of the OnePlus 6, OnePlus has rolled out OxygenOS 5.1.0 with Android 8.1 Oreo for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T smartphones. The company has already teased the gestures for navigation feature of the OnePlus 6 in a promo video.

The update to Stable OxygenOS 5.1.0 Android 8.1 Oreo was initially available to the beta versions only, however, with the OS Open Beta 4 the stable version is finally available.

The gesture navigation was made famous by the iPhone X even though it was not the first smartphone to do it. WebOS had gestures for navigation and so did BlackBerryOS.

Navigation gestures is one of the more interactive features to come with the iPhone X as it acts as a substitute for the home button. A middle swipe will open the recently used apps in the multi-task menu. Increasingly, Android manufacturers have been incorporating elements like the display notch as they make phones with bigger screen real estate.

This feature was supposed to be released with the OnePlus 6 however, this seems to be the precursor of the model.

Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus rolled out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for OnePlus 5 last year in December, and then in late January this year, the company rolled out the 8.0 Oreo update for OnePlus 5T as well. Optimisations in the gaming mode include power saving and pausing adaptive brightness. Launch update brings category tags in the search section of the app drawer, and Auto name folders based on category.
