Baggies shock United, as Magpies down the Gunners

West Brom stunned Manchester United and the new Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday as they came away with a 1-0 win from Old Trafford.

It had been a traumatic week for City, who threw away a two-goal interval lead to lose 3-2 at home to United in the derby last weekend, missing the chance to become champions in front of their own fans at the Etihad Stadium. Rodriguez headed home for West Brom, with United's 1-0 defeat seeing City seal the title without kicking a ball.

United should have had a first-half penalty after Craig Dawson caught Ander Herrera, but complacency seeped in and West Brom showed fight under caretaker boss Darren Moore that has been sorely lacking this season.

After the match at Old Trafford, the manager himself was very open and realistic about how Manchester United played.

Mourinho, though, was quick to dampen talk that United had handed the title to City, insisting it is their dominance over the season that secured their coronation.

Jay Rodriguez is pleased to have helped West Bromwich Albion claim their first Premier League victory since January with his victor at Manchester United.

"Some players think it is stylish football". "Manchester City, we've won you the league", was the cry from the West Brom fans.

And West Brom keep their faint hopes of survival alive, moving to within nine points of safety.

"Paul had a yellow card and Paul's game was complicated like many others".

"Too high because when you win a match that gives you nothing, it just gives you three points, but you react in a way that it looks like you won something really important, you pay the price".

The hosts struggled to cut through Albion's compact defence and when they did found an equal in former goalkeeper Ben Foster, who blocked from Romelu Lukaku at point-blank range and kept out Alexis Sanchez's follow-up with his legs. Two points separate the teams and Arsenal's focus is now on winning the Europa League to qualify for next season's Champions League. This boring performance came just eight days after the 3-2 win against Manchester City at the Etihad, making a stark comparison to the previous match. That didn't make me feel super happy, and, in my opinion, it affected some of the people that were too happy. "In my experience you don't win titles with inconsistency". At last, Manchester City's players can enjoy a serene Premier League title triumph, winning the title without even playing.
