The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have chose to pick up the fifth-year option on quarterback Jameis Winston's original rookie contract. The total value of Winston's current four-year contract is $25,351,277, and his base salary for the 2018 season will be $705,000.

The quarterback is coming off a disappointing 2017 where he set career lows in 3,504 yards and 19 touchdowns, missing three games due to a shoulder injury.

Still, the 2015 first overall pick obviously has plenty of upside he is still trying to reach, and the Bucs believe he can hit that next level.

The Buccaneers went 5-11 in 2017, finishing last in a tough NFC South division, and will look to Winston to take the next step and lead them to a first playoff berth since 2007 next season.

Stroud noted Winston will make $20.922 million, which is guaranteed against injury.

James Winston will be sticking around in Tampa for a little while longer. Despite high expectations, the Buccaneers finished just 3-10 with Winston under center.

Off the field, Winston is now accused of groping an Uber driver in an alleged November incident. "My focus has been with this organization, getting the guys back in here and focusing on what we can do to be a better team this offseason".

Winston became the first National Football League player to pass for at least 4,000 yards in each of his first two seasons.
