Jenna Bush Hager gave a tearful - but positive update on her 92-year-old grandmother Barbara Bush.

Bush would not seek further medical treatment and has instead made a decision to seek "comfort care" as her health fails.

The iconic woman decided over the weekend to seek comfort care in her home rather than seek further treatment at the hospital.

The wife of former President George H.W. Bush and mother of President George W. Bush suffers from congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

President Donald Trump's press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said in a statement Sunday evening that "the President's and first lady's prayers are with all of the Bush family during this time". Her other sons former President George W. Bush and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush also visited recently but have since left.

She's been there for them. "And what was worse, in her eyes, was that I had done it all in front of my mom, my daughters, family guests, and most of all, Gampy, who had been raised with the highest standards of sportsmanship".

After wearing a triple-strand false pearl necklace to her husband's presidential inauguration in 1989, she sparked a trend and the piece of jewellery became associated with the First Lady. Barbara Bush and her husband, the former president, have been holding hands when he is by her bedside, the family spokesman said. "She is in great spirits and she's a fighter".

She was also known for her compassion, understanding that as a first lady she was in a unique position to create a lasting legacy.
