One of the first products to be announced under the partnership will be the ZenFone Max Pro, that will launch globally in India on April 23.

The BigOnFlipkart event is significant for both Asus and Flipkart.

ASUS said that the ZenFone Max Pro will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 636 SoC, however, the company didn't reveal any other details of this smartphone like amount of RAM, storage, camera configuration, display size or battery capacity.

In what could be the most insignificant and freakish event to have been witnessed, the two companies only revealed that the Zenfone Max Pro will be launched on April 23rd in India, as part of a global launch. What's interesting is the fact that Xiaomi also considered launching the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India for a global release. This will be the first smartphone from Asus to be made available on Flipkart under a new long-term strategic partnership that the two players have signed.

And on the marketing front, both the companies will extensively support each other in the planning and execution of marketing activities for Asus Zenfones in the country, Flipkart said. Asus informed that they will work with Flipkart to use their insights in Indian market to design their products.

"Approximately, one in 4 phones bought in India is through Flipkart". But there's more to its new partnership with Asus than what meets the eye. The etailer wants to own 40% of all smartphone sales in India by 2020 and partnerships like these can help the company to achieve the same, according to Flipkart.

The partnership will cover sales and marketing of products by Flipkart and see both the companies collaborating for co-creation of new products for the Indian market based on consumer insights.

Commenting on the announcement, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said, "Flipkart has driven the adoption of smartphones in India, and grown the market, through innovations and a deep sense of knowing what consumers want".

The first step in that direction is its long term strategic partnership with ASUS that will enable the Taiwanese IT leader to design and market products that have been specially created to address Indian market needs.
