IN traffic stop leads to seizure of 78 pounds of illegal marijuana

Somebody's 4/20 celebration may have been spoiled today.

A trooper pulled over a 2017 Ford Expedition for a traffic violation on I-70 near Greenfield around 11 a.m.

The Nebraska State Patrol seized more 114 pounds after a traffic stop in Lincoln Monday. The deputy reported smelling marijuana in the vehicle, and a subsequent search turned up 114 pounds (52 kilograms) of pot and some cannabis edibles.

The station says 51-year-old Colorado man Christian Elie and 42-year-old Indianapolis man Austin Johnson are behind bars and face preliminary drug-related charges. The estimated is street value of the pot is $500,000 - $600,000, officials with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office said.

The arrests and charges remain under investigation by Indiana State Police.
