Kathua accused plead not guilty, ask for narco test

The two accused - former revenue official Sanjhi Ram and special police officer Deepak Khajuria - told presspersons outside the Kathua court that they were willing to go for narco-analysis tests.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to urgently hear a plea in the Kathua rape and murder case. The next court hearing will be conducted on April 28.

"Be that as it may, we do not intend to enter into this sphere (transfer of case to CBI) at this stage", the bench said.

Lawyer Deepika Singh Rajawat told the court that she had been threatened with rape and death for taking up the case.


Vizag, on Sunday, witnessed protests break out in the city, demanding justice for the rape victims in the recently reported cases of Unnao and Kathua.The latest happenings left everyone shattered and united people across the city to showcase their resentment. The court also issued notice to the state on a petition filed by the victim's father that says the atmosphere in Jammu is highly polarised for a fair trial and the accused must be tried in Chandigarh.

The bench also directed the state police to provide adequate security to the juvenile delinquent, who has been picked up in connection with the case and kept at an observation home.

Immediately after the brief hearing in the sessions court, the seven accused were shifted back to the jail under heavy security. The family had trouble even burying the body as some locals disallowed burial accusing the family of trying to occupy land in the name of a graveyard.

The bench also ordered the state government to provide escalated security cover to the lawyer and family of the deceased eight-year-old girl. Meanwhile, the trial in the Kathua gangrape and murder case began today in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Jammu and Kashmir. She also added that she was pleased with the investigation by the police. She was drugged and raped repeatedly before being murdered. "Sanji Ram, the caretaker of "Devisthan", a small temple in a village in Kathua, as the main conspirator behind the crime", chargesheet reads. On January 13 Parves, Vishal and the juvenile took the victim from the temple to a nearby area and killed her.
