"Night Court" actor Harry Anderson dies at 65

The star was found dead in his Asheville, N.C., home on Monday morning at 6:41 a.m.an Asheville Police spokeswoman told Fox News. No foul play is suspected in his death.

Anderson was born on October 14, 1952 in Newport, Rhode Island.

Anderson's other well known roles include eight appearances on Saturday Night Live and a recurring role as con man Harry "The Hat" Gittes on Cheers.

Anderson played Judge Harry Stone on the show and was nominated for an Emmy three times for the role. The actor, most prominently seen in the comedy Night Court, was 65.

Following his stint on Night Court, he played the lead role of Dave Barry in "Dave's World" from 1993 to 97. He later appeared as the original Richie character in the made-for-TV adaptation of Stephen King's "It", which was recently remade into a movie. They named the character Harry so I'd do not forget to react when someone said my name.


Here is how Anderson's fans remembered his career. "By the time they figured out that I couldn't act scared on the subway at 4 a.m., I already had a five-year contract".

He was also an accomplished magician and even opened a magic shop in the French Quarter of New Orleans. He often performed a one-man show - a mix of magic and humor - until Hurricane Katrina swept through.

He's survived by 2 children and his wife, Elizabeth Morgan.

Friends and admirers took to Twitter to remember Anderson and offer their condolences.
