Both Chery and Iovine were first brought into the fold when Apple acquired Beats by Dre. This person is no other than the Head of Artist Curation for hip hop, Carl Chery. Chery's played a pivotal role at Apple Music over the years for their A-List: Hip Hip and A-List: R&B playlists.

Carl Chery is the one that managed to strike a collaboration between Apple Music and Chance the Rapper, the Grammy-winning artist. But that's not the only aspect that Spotify plans to improve starting this month.

With the departure of Chery, Apple Music appears to be continuously shuffling its team. Just a few days ago, Jimmy Iovine ended his time as head of this streaming music service. Last week, the tech giant announced that Oliver Schusser was promoted to lead Apple Music worldwide. Now the company has more than 157 million registered users but only 71 million pay for access to the music catalog without ads.

To give an idea of what to expect, Spotify shared an invite that reads, "Hear what's next for our mobile app".

Spotify will be holding a press event in New York City on April 24 and it promised to make "a news announcement".

The company has also reportedly been developing some type of branded hardware. Therefore, this is a serious blow for Apple Music.
