War of words between Trump, Comey escalates over moral assault

President Donald Trump dismissed former FBI Director James Comey's attacks on Monday by claiming Comey and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe had "committed many crimes!"

He also answered "possibly" when asked if the president was attempting to obstruct justice when he cleared the Oval Office of other officials last February before encouraging him to close the investigation into Flynn, who by that point was suspected of lying to the FBI about his Russian contacts. The review accused Mr. McCabe of lacking candor when he spoke to Mr. Comey shortly after the October 2016 article was published, when he spoke with F.B.I. investigators and then in two conversations with investigators for the inspector general.

The wide-ranging interview with ABC News also came ahead of Tuesday's release of Comey's memoir, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership", in which he details his interactions with the Republican president.

"He looked a little shaky", Ms Conway said of Mr Comey, on ABC's Good Morning America.

"I don't understand why the Justice Department hasn't reinvigorated or refocused resources on this, the way they have with this improper targeting of President Trump", he said.

"The idea that [Trump] obstructed justice by firing [former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James] Comey to protect [former national security adviser Michael] Flynn or whatever. if Comey's the key witness, boy, what a joke of a prosecution that would be", Fitton said.

Page and Strzok previously took part in Comey's investigation into former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's emails. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), and Comey's May 2017 testimony when he told Grassley that he had never been an anonymous source to the news media.

Mr Comey also said he believed that Mr Trump was "morally unfit" to be president and that he treated women like "pieces of meat". The retired general pleaded guilty last December and is now co-operating with Mr Mueller's investigation. "Just another of his many lies".
