After filling up, the payment for the fuel is deducted from the payment system previously supplied to the system. The system will then generate a code that activates one of the station's fuel pumps and presto: you can refuel your vehicle.

The Shell fueling widget is now being tested in Detroit, Seattle and Houston with a nationwide rollout covering 14,000 Shell Stations planned in the coming months.

While this Shell app launch for Marketplace is geared more toward consumers and offers convenience and a fuel discount, it's not hard to imagine GM Fleet adapting and expanding this type of service for fleet and commercial customers, perhaps adding deeper functionality like a back-office component or fuel allotments/tracking for drivers. In-dash payment is now piloting in select markets.

With the introduction of Marketplace, Chevrolet enabled drivers to order food or make dinner reservations but also find parking and hotels, but the Shell Pay & Save feature is a premiere. What cars? Well, eligible Chevrolet vehicles, of course. A nationwide rollout is planned for later this year. "At Shell we are constantly working to develop better products and services for our customers, and we are always evolving according to their transforming needs and expectations around convenience, quality, digitalization and service".

The automaker is launching an "In Dash" payment system that lets you pay for gas from inside your auto.
