LG forecasts record Q1 profit despite its struggling smartphone division

From the patent application, it seems that LG is focusing on the media consumption for its foldable smartphone, enabling users to consume different types of media content without disturbing each other.

The LG G7 ThinQ is rumored to be announced before the end of the month and it is believed to hit the market sometime in May. LG Electronics has confirmed to wireless carriers in South Korea that the G7 ThinQ would launch in May. First one (see above) shows off a boot screen that displays the "LG G7 ThinQ" moniker.

The next LG G smartphone will be known as the LG G7 ThinQ.

The LG G7 ThinQ will arrive with an iPhone X-style notch and will have formidable specs. A power button flanks the right side of the display while on the left is a dedicated AI button.

Despite coming packed inside of an unremovable plastic case for testing, the notch (perhaps the G7 ThinQ's most distinguishing and controversial feature) is visible, revealing itself on the phone's boot screen snuggled up to a notification LED indicator and a selfie camera. The new speaker is called the LG X-Boom Handy Splash, and like the rest of the range, comes with a telescopic handle and recessed wheels for added mobility and ease of movement. There could be an AI button that may remind you of the Bixby button on a Samsung Galaxy unit.

Other grabs we've seen show the phone's AnTuTu scores seem to best, well, the best that's now out there: the Samsung Galaxy S9. Back in February, a major leak for the smartphone displayed the device in its entirety. These suggest the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (as expected) and a rather modest 4GB RAM along with 64GB storage. It could be one of the variants of the handset, as previous leaks had hinted at a 6GB RAM model.

LG Mobile has posted just one quarter of profitability over the last two years, that was a small $3.2 million profit Q1 2017, the first quarter of sales of its G6 flagship.
