Melaye shared information about his arrest on His Twitter handle.

Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West) has been arrested after checking in at the global wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.

The checkpoints had disappeared in a while now.

"Yes, he had been released nearly an hour ago".

The Senator said that he was blocked as he was undergoing security and immigration screening.

Attempts by officials of the NIS to hand him over to the police was rebuffed as the police refused to arrest him after declaring him wanted last month.

I was at the Airport lounge when they called me that my attention was needed by the officials of the Immigration.

Mr Melaye denied wrongdoing, saying his ordeal was politically-motivated.

After Melaye shunned a police order to appear in a Lokoja court on March 28, the two suspects to be tried along with him disappeared from police cell.

The development could further surprise Nigerians who have always been shocked at the police's apparent failure to enforce their own arrest warrant.

The police had declared Melaye wanted in connection with a murder case.

According to the Senator, the police had placed him on their "no fly" list and thus barred him from travelling.

NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi west said he has just been arrested at Abuja's global airport.
