The Q5L is Audi's first long wheelbase iteration of an SUV from its line-up and is intended specifically for the Chinese market.

As a result, the extended model is on show in Beijing, where the public can view the additional rear leg room on offer from a auto that's been stretched by 130mm.

With the new Q5L, which is Audi's fourth long wheelbase model in China after the A4L, A6L, and the A8L, the brand said that it is seeking to further expand its strong position in the Chinese SUV market.

Compared to the standard Q5, the Q5L's wheelbase and exterior length have increased by 88mm. The volumeof the luggage compartment has remained unchanged at 550/1,550 litres.

Splitting the China-bound Q5L range are five trim levels, namely Vogue, Lifestyle, Design, Sport and Sport plus. These differ in many exterior and interior details. The base Vogue model comes standard with three-zone climate control and the Audi smartphone interface on board. While the MMI navigation plus and the fully digital Audi virtual cockpit are offered as additional bits on the Lifestyle variant. The Design, Sport and Sport plus lines also include the Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound. The LED headlights with Matrix LED technology are available as an optional provision starting with the Lifestyle line. The panoramic glass roof is also standard.

On the powertrain front, the Audi Q5L marries a four-cylinder 2-liter turbo TFSI engine tweaked to offer two power outputs - 140 kW (190 hp) or 185 kW (252 hp) - to a standard seven-speed S tronic gearbox and the familiar quattro all-wheel-drive system. It accelerates the SUV from zero to 100 km/h (0 - 62.1 mph) in 8.6 or 6.7 seconds, respectively.

Sales of the Q5L will begin in China in summer 2018.
