Star Wars Resistance will be the third animated series produced by Lucasfilm since the company was bought by Disney in a four billion dollar (£2.5bn) deal in 2012.

The series follows a young rebel pilot, Kazuda Xiono, who is tasked with spying on the First Order.

Star Wars Resistance will feature a voice cast alongside Isaac and Christie that includes Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco, Josh Brener, Donald Faison (a big Star Wars fan, we should note, especially Rebels), Bobby Moynihan, Jim Rash, and Rachel Butera.

The show is set to his the United States in the Autumn - stay tuned for more info on a United Kingdom home and air date.

In addition to Filoni, Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars vets Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge, and Amy Beth Christenson and Star Wars newcomer Brandon Auman are working behind the scenes. To be fair, we have gotten quite a few STAR WARS actors to reprise their roles for FORCES OF DESTINY, but those were all shorts.

Lucasfilm announced on Thursday that "Star Wars Resistance" is the title of the brand new, anime-inspired TV series coming this fall.

The series is described as 'anime-inspired, ' and the single piece of promotional art released appears to be hand-drawn, or at least animated in a style to resemble hand-drawn animation, instead of the smoother, computer-generated style of the two previous Star Wars television series.

The new series will be set in an "uncharted time frame prior to The Force Awakens". "Star Wars Resistance" will bring viewers across generations an engaging story with heart, humor and both new and familiar characters".

Disney has been very open about plans to create a seemingly never-ending list of Star Wars related entertainment.

In a statement, Filoni revealed the inspirations behind Star Wars: Resistance. Let us know in the comments!

According to Gizmodo, producer Dave Filoni came up with the concept for Star Wars Resistance. "We aimed to provide ways for familes to connect healthier living with their favorite Star Wars characters, so the tens of thousands of recipe and app downloads, quiz submissions and sweepstakes entries is proof that the campaign really resonated with consumers".
