Google's new Wear OS Phone app brings Quick Replies to smartwatches

Google has recently released a brand new Wear OS Phone app aimed at those who own smartwatches that have already been updated to the new version of the wearable platform.

Wear OS Phone has a feature called Quick Replies that allows you to reply to a call using SMS, much like you can now do on your Android phone. These fast SMS responses can be accessed by tapping the overflow menu with a number of preset options available, including "I will call you right back" and "Can't talk right now".

It's definitely a handy addition if you want to keep interactions with your smartwatch minimal and don't fancy taking calls from the wrist if you have a Wear watch packing microphones and speakers.

The new app is rolling out globally in the Google Play store now.

The job of the app is simple, and pretty obvious - help you make a call directly from your Wear OS smartwatch.

While there may be no icon on the app list of these devices, users can still access the Phone app by heading directly to the Play Store listing. Do you like the changes? Still, we have to think that Google is working hard to figure out how to make the best iPhone-compatible experience it can for the Pixel Watch.
