Manx Radio broadcasts mental health message

So the month aims to focus on the strategies for achieving mental health and wellness, as well as minimizing the stigma related to the mental disorder.

With over 300 stations taking part, broadcasting to one of radio's biggest collective audiences with an average listenership of 20 million, the Mental Health Minute has been led by Radiocentre and The Radio Academy. The CIPD is therefore delighted to be a partner of Business in the Community's National Mental Health at Work Survey 2018 in conjunction with Mercer and national partners Mind, Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health at Work, OUTstanding, The Work Foundation and ILM, to ensure that employers are supporting employees with their mental health.

Spearheaded by Radiocentre and Radio Academy and executed by content agency Somethin' Else, the Mental Health Awareness minute, which falls in Mental Health Awareness Week, is supported by the Royal Foundation's Heads Together which was launched to change the national conversation on mental health and tackle the stigma that prevents people from getting the help they need.

Generally, around one in four people in Scotland are estimated to be affected by mental illness in any one year, so even if you personally don't experience a problem, it is inevitable that someone close to you will. That's why it is not only important to think about what we can do to take care of our own mental health, it is also important to be open to talking about the subject with others and learning to spot the signs when someone might need a bit of help.


I personally have spent time talking to people, particularly young people, about mental health - both about how we promote good mental health and how we as a government can provide better and faster support to people who are experiencing difficulties. This is why our new Mental Health Strategy, published a year ago, was shaped by a public consultation - a consultation which received almost 600 responses.

There isn't a more important issue in today's workplace than people's health and well-being, and we're seeing that numerous main risks to our health are now psychological.

The Behavioral Health Center of Nueces County (BHCNC) is the Local Mental Health Authority, providing services and support to individuals living with mental illness. "This poignant moment of reflection, a first in United Kingdom radio, is a wonderful opportunity to help us improve how we support each othe remotionally".
