Lionel Messi and Paulo Dybala highlight Argentina's 35-man preliminary squad for the World Cup this summer.

Juventus' Dybala has often been compared to Barcelona superstar Messi as they both play the same position, making it hard to feature them together on the national team.

One more week. Sampaoli will name his 23-player squad next Monday afternoon.

Striker Sergio Aguero and midfielder Lucas Biglia were included despite injuries.

With Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi assured of a spot on the plane to Russian Federation it means that one or both of Icardi and Dybala will probably miss out on the summer showpiece.

Aguero's likely replacement is Gonzalo Higuain, but the Juventus scorer has not showed the same efficiency for Argentina.

Juventus's Paulo Dybala is also included alongside Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, while there are seven Premier League players in the squad - including Manchester United pair Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo, and West Ham United attacker Manuel Lanzini.

There was also a spot for uncapped River Plate goalkeeper Franco Armani, who joined the Buenos Aires club in January from Colombia's Atletico Nacional amid reports he could seek Colombian nationality.

Racing midfielder Ricardo Centurion has been called as a possible substitute for Angel Di Maria because of his speed.
