And a move for Seri is on the cards, but the Gunners face an uphill battle with the 26-year-old setting his sights elsewhere.

Arsenal are hoping to use their connections to see off competition from Liverpool FC and Manchester United in Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, according to a report.

Barcelona also attempted to lure Seri to the Nou Camp last summer but a deal could not be struck and he remained with Lucien Favre's side.

Arsenal's director of football, Raul Sanllehi, who spent 14 years at the Catalan club and current La Liga champions, has re-opened dialogue with agents who work on behalf of the player. The last piece of information has been reported by the Daily Mirror in their latest report.

There remains an uncertainty over the managerial positions at both Chelsea and Arsenal which could play a part in any negotiations.

Seri nearly joined La Liga giants Barcelona last summer, but his move fell through at the last moment.

The Ivorian has enjoyed another impressive campaign and attracted Premier League interest with a potential transfer fee of £40million being touted.

The African star has scored two goals and has made five assists in 30 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for their former player Mikel Arteta. Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri also appears to be in the running for the job at the North London club.
