Her action had apparently not been sanctioned by the festival organisers.

She was present for the Monday night gala premiere of "BlacKkKlansman", Spike Lee's new film. He participated in a demonstration at Cannes Film Festival against Israel's brutality.

She made a statement as she walked the red carpet for "BlacKkKlansman" in black Christian Louboutins and a silver ensemble.

Lebanese actress Manal Issa raised a sign which said "stop the attack on Gaza" while walking the Cannes Film festival red carpet to draw attention to the Israeli army's killing of Palestinians on the Gaza border a day earlier.

Last year, the actress told THR that she found it unfair to force female attendees to be uncomfortable while men had the option to dress however they pleased. You can not come in.' Then [I'm going to say], 'Neither is my friend. It's just like you simply can not ask me to do something that you are not asking him.

The festival declined to comment on the report at the time but confirmed women were required to wear high-heels to red carpet screenings although this has since been disputed by festival director Thierry Fremaux. "I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version-flats or heels", she explained.

Sara wore a very feathery white creation from the designers who have been hotly tipped to design Meghan Markle's wedding dress - Ralph & Russo.

In 2014, actress Emma Thompson famously carried her heels on stage at the Golden Globes while also holding a martini glass when she appeared to present an award. Plus, as most other people who've rocked heels at an event before can understand, sometimes shoes get uncomfortable and are hard to move in.

And speaking to the Hollywood Reporter past year about the Cannes ban on flat shoes, she said: "There's definitely a distinct dress code, right?"
