OnePlus is seeding a new Open Beta update to the OnePlus 5 and 5T smartphones. Until now, for some odd reason, OnePlus phones didn't support Group MMS, but with the new security patch update, OnePlus is fixing the issue.

For some unusual reason, Android Messages (the default SMS app) on OnePlus devices doesn't support group MMS. The upcoming OnePlus 6 is will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and will come with a notch screen just like the iPhone X. The OnePlus 6 will cost more than the current OnePlus 5T, which was recently updated to Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. Despite being different version numbers, the update is the same for both phones.

For now, there is no word regarding the Android P update to these smartphones.

The May security patch open beta brings some new features, noticeable improvements and changes to the OnePlus 3, 3T, OnePlus 5 and 5T.

This will give current OnePlus device owners the ability to use Android Messages without having to deal with an individual thread for every group MMS.

The open beta software does not seem to be available in the form of an over-the-air (OTA) update and the Chinese smartphone maker has published full flashing instructions on the download page for those planning to get the update. The changelog, which remains same for all four models, reveals that the open beta update brings a new Toolbox Card in the shelf homescreen and a Hidden Space for the app drawer.

The OnePlus Switch app is also getting some updates. You can also now edit the dynamic icons for weather, clock, and calendar apps.

Those updates apply to the OnePlus Launcher of Oxygen OS.
