The Texas football program announced a marquee home-and-home series with reigning national champion and SEC titan Alabama. The Crimson Tide will then host the Longhorns at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa on September 9, 2023.

The first game will take place in Austin, Texas, on September 10, 2022 with the Longhorns making a return trip to Tuscaloosa the following year.

In order to make room for the contests against Alabama, the Longhorns have pushed back their meetings with Ohio State to the 2025 and 2026 seasons. The Longhorns and Buckeyes were scheduled to meet in 2022-2023.

Texas is 7-1-1 all-time against Alabama.

The Crimson Tide beat the Longhorns in the Rose Bowl to win the 2009 season national championship. UT ranks second in all-time victories with 898 while Alabama ranks fifth with 891. The traditional college football powers have only met three times on their home fields with the last coming in Austin in 1922.

Texas has also announced a home game against UTEP in 2020, but no one will be talking about that one. All matchups since the 1947 Sugar Bowl have come in postseason appearances. UT is 5-0 in the all-time series and last faced its El Paso sister school in 2016.

Texas still has more work ahead to complete future football schedules.

"We're thrilled to be able to add another incredible non-conference opponent with the University of Texas for a home-and-home series", said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. UTEP will visit Austin on September 19, 2020.
