A Bakersfield man has died after a crash this morning in Visalia.

The California Highway Patrol tells KNBC-TV that the children, who were 6 and 8 years old, were in a Nissan Versa that was struck head-on Tuesday by a auto taking part in the illegal race in Perris.

The driver of a Honda sedan was northbound on Road 164 south of Avenue 344 while the driver of a GMC pickup was westbound on Avenue 344 approaching Road 164, CHP said. The Highway Patrol said the driver of the Honda, 37-year-old Angel Lopez, went through a stop sign- driving into the path of a pick-up truck driven by 43-year-old Pablo Gomes. The vehicle was impounded for evidence so a thorough inspection can be done regarding passenger restraints, CHP officials said. The woman and three other passengers received minor injuries and were taken to Desert Valley Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Honda suffered major injuries. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision.

Anyone who witnessed either crash or has any information on them is urged to contact CHP's Victorville office at 760-241-1186.
