Hezbollah says 'new phase' in war with Israel after strikes

US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday to discuss "challenges facing the Middle East region, especially the problems posed by the Iranian regime's destabilizing activities", the White House said on Sunday.

Iran said it will not continue the implementation of the JCPOA without receiving enough ‎guarantees from three European countries, including the UK, France, and Germany.

Last week, the Israeli military said it attacked almost all of Iran's military installations in neighbouring Syria in response to the barrage. Israel won't tolerate a buildup of Iranian forces along its borders in Syria as Iran explicitly seeks to destroy Israel.

Israel on Thursday unleashed a heavy bombardment against what it said were Iranian military installations in Syria on Thursday. "[Recent bombings] clearly demonstrate their destructive policy in assisting those groups for the objective destabilizing the region", the letter says.

Without new reinforcements like Russia's S-300, and with the former defenses laying in ruin, Iranian forces in Syria will be greatly exposed to Israeli air power. Tehran denies the allegations, claiming that it is only sending military advisors and humanitarian aid to the Arab Republic.

The developments indicate Russian Federation may have turned its back on protecting Iranians, who were the targets of the Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday night.

Nasrallah said Hezbollah and its allies Iran and Syria "will respond at the appropriate time and place and with the appropriate method" to Israel's Syria raids, while adding, "This landmark rocket attack has launched a new phase".

Over the course of Syria's eight-year long civil war Israel has publicly admitted to having struck over 100 Hezbollah convoys and other Iranian targets in Syria, while keeping mum on hundreds of other strikes attributed to it.

This is because all know that Iran is a country, which treads down the path of peace and acts in line with worldwide regulations, he said, noting that "today, the USA should come under pressure as a country going against its promises and acting in contravention of regulations". The Syrian army reported that its air defenses had "shot down dozens of Israeli missiles", however several of them reached their targets.

He added: "We are in the midst of a protracted battle and our policy is clear: we will not allow Iran to entrench itself militarily in Syria".

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that the US was withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), an worldwide agreement reached in 2015 by Iran, the United States, Russia, France, China, the UK, Germany and the EU. But the United States is further away from an agreeable situation with Iran now that Trump moved to leave the multiparty agreement to provide Iran sanctions relief in exchange for verification that Iran did not work to build nuclear weapons, he said.
