New Apple HQ might land in the South

Amazon may be garnering numerous headlines, as the Seattle-based e-commerce and tech giant continues the process of picking a location for its second corporate headquarters, which has been dubbed HQ2.

The details of the process, however, are far from finalized, according to a CNBC report which cites that Apple is still entertaining real estate offerings in other parts of the country, too. Cooper has reportedly been negotiating an incentive package to entice Apple, but such a package is said to still need approval from the North Carolina state legislature.

Tech giants like Apple and Amazon likely see value in going to the DC area to tap into the tech talent on the East Coast and build campuses closer to the United States government's center of power, in hopes of gaining lucrative government cloud-computing or hardware contracts.

At the Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California. The site is near Raliegh and Durham and is surrounded by the Univerisity of North Carolina, NC State and Duke University. And Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services, is a Duke alum.

Apple has said it plans to spend $30B over five years on new facilities and hiring 20K employees.
