A surprise announcement came this morning at The CW's upfront presentation in NY that this year's Arrowverse crossover will feature Batwoman - note that it's not Batgirl, but rather the "Kate Kane" version introduced in the 52 comic book series in 2005 - and Gotham City will also be introduced to the Arrowverse story!

The CW's annual Arrow-verse crossover is introducing a new DC Comics favorite. The character will be "fighting alongside" The CW's heroes, Amell said, with the crossover airing in December. "I need to leave right now and start filming it!"

Batwoman's addition also means that the Arrowverse will expand to include Gotham City, something many fans have been dying to see.

While the Arrowverse may hesitate from using the words "Batman" or "The Joker" (after all, Gotham isn't even allowed to use the latter), it does seem as though they are throwing Batwoman into the mix. Kind of cool that the first one to show up is Batwoman, who has been one of DC's best characters since she was introduced a few years back. "This will be another full-throttled, action-packed event".

With the introduction of Gotham City in the crossover, the Arrowverse is following through on something it has been teasing for some time. Furthermore, the current season of Arrow confirmed that Gotham existed in the show's universe when Oliver Queen name-dropped Bruce Wayne while being questioned about whether or not he was the Green Arrow.
