The Indiana guard will serve as the honorary pace vehicle driver to start the May 27 race, it was announced Thursday.

Indiana Pacers star Victor Oladipo will drive the Pace Car at the 102nd Indianapolis 500.

This week, he was selected for one of the state's biggest honors. He played for Indiana University from 2010-2013.

"This is a tremendous honor for me", Oladipo said. Excited is a huge understatement to how I feel about this. He will lead the 33-car field to the starting line in a 2019 Corvette ZR1 on May 27.

Prior to joining the National Basketball Association as a lottery pick back in 2013, Oladipo starred for the Indiana Hoosiers from 2010-13. He went second overall in the 2013 NBA Draft and spent four seasons in the league before he was traded to the Pacers previous year.

Oladipo was dealt to the Pacers by the Oklahoma City Thunder last offseason as part of the Paul George trade and broke out this season, averaging 23.1 points, 4.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds.

"It will be great to have Victor behind the wheel of the 2019 Corvette ZR1, the fastest, most powerful, most advanced performance production Corvette ever", said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president performance Vehicles and Motorsports for Chevrolet.
