The train route will be 27.1 kilometer long, spread from Ali Town to Thokar Niaz Baig, from Multan Road to Scheme Mor, Chowburji, MAO College, Mall Road, Laxmi Chowk and Railway Station, from Garhi Shahu Bridge to GT Road and UET and from Pakistan Mint to Dera Gojran.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday inaugurated the first test-run of Lahore's much-awaited Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT).

Speaking to the media after 11 km test run in the metro train from Dera Gujjran station to Lakshmi Chowk station, Shehbaz said that had Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf not created hurdles, millions would have been traveling in the metro train.

The CM Punjab, while addressing a gathering after the inauguration, said work on the project would be complete in three months.

"Teachers, students, common citizens, labourers, and people from all walks of life will benefit from Orange Line Metro Train", he said. The statement said "The OLMT is Pakistan's first mass rapid transit train project launched by the Punjab government".

"I am disappointed in PTI who tried to sabotage Orange Line project by getting a stay order against it and delaying the project for 22 months". However, the Punjab government deserves a huge round of applause to have managed to complete this project in time despite the time loss. The metro train track was being constructed under package-I and II while depot and stabling yard were being constructed under package-III and IV respectively.

So far, 88 per cent construction work and over 70pc of the electrical and mechanical work on the project has been completed. Each bogie is 20 metres long. Separate seats have been allocated for women, senior citizens and special persons. 200 passengers can travel in each bogie and public address system has also been installed for the convenience of the passengers.

The train is also slated to serve 250,000 people daily. Installation of electric accelerators is in full swing as well, the officials informed.
