"I called Mitch Hurwitz, who's the creator of Arrested Development, and I said, "if there is a season 5 I won't be doing it because I quit acting" and he seemed really understanding and he totally got it and we had a great conversation and then he wrote me into 5 episodes", she said.

While Portia will be seen in five episodes of the upcoming season five of Arrested Development, she disclosed during an interview with her wife on her TV show The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday that she would no longer be concentrating on her Hollywood career.

Portia says she left the hit show Scandal (which just aired its series finale) as she approached her 45th birthday.

Fans of the show Arrested Development will know Portia de Rossi as the slightly immature, flirty and smug Lindsay Bluth Fünke.

She said that her decision to quit acting came as she began looking for something new to do that would be challenging and different.

She explained that she studied art and has been "an art lover" her "whole life" and has chose to start "an art curation and publishing company". She explained to DeGeneres she quit acting to pursue other interests, including her art curation and publishing company, General Public. "Rather than the traditional flat print, we print with all the texture and articulation in the original painting, so it's actually really hard to tell the difference".

"I just think it's wonderful, too, because all you've ever known your entire life is acting, that's all you've known, and you took a chance, and you decided 'I'm gonna try a whole new thing that I've never done'". "I don't know how it happened", she said jokingly, "but, yes, I am on season five".
