Red Hydrogen One, the oft-delayed smartphone from the famed camera maker, is finally coming out, and in the USA it will be coming to Verizon and AT&T.

Cinema camera company Red's first smartphone has been promising big features since last summer, but despite pre-orders already being underway, few official details have been available on the smartphone outside of the holographic display. Besides the high-end specs inside, the Hydrogen One will be capable of capturing 4-View video that enables users to look around and behind objects that have shot with the camera. However, it's the interchangeable lens support that has many RED fans fascinated.

It's still not precisely clear when the Red Hydrogen One will finally appear. Multiple modules can be stacked, in fact, with power and data being passed in both directions. As for size, Jannard says it's about 2 ounces heavier than most other smartphones, with a 5.7-inch size, a few millimeters larger, and "just a tad thicker". In fact, you get a full 4,500 mAh. According to previous communications from Red's CEO, this phone will pack in some 2017 tech, like the Snapdragon 835. The promise is that both big-name developers, musicians, and directors will be involved, in addition to independent creators.

YouTube personality Marques Brownlee saw a prototype of the phone past year and was impressed by the holographic screen despite some rough edges that Red will presumably smooth over before the phone launches.

In case you're unfamiliar, the RED Hydrogen One is an, ambitious, Android smartphone which was announced a year ago. The phone is absurdly expensive and extremely niche - why would a carrier sell this?

Pricing and specific availability haven't been confirmed yet, though it's fair to assume the Hydrogen One won't be a cheap handset. Preorders opened at $1,200 for a SIM-free, unlocked device, after all.
