Fresh Attack Hits Kaduna, 7 Dead, 5 Injured

Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Yusuf Buratai has said that the Army was ready to cooperate with other security agencies to end the killings attributed to bandits in Birnin Gwari, in Kaduna state.

A source in the area who does not want to be named for fear of being targeted by the bandits said the three villages that were attacked included Mashigi, Dokoru and Sabon Wuri.

However, the Command's Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Aliyu who confirmed the incident, said seven persons were killed in the attack which he said occurred on Wednesday.

The PPRO, however, said their men are in the process of confirming the actual casualties and fatalities involved in the attack.

Hundreds have been killed, abducted, maimed and villages sacked.

The Chief of Army Staff had given soldiers posted to the area three weeks to root out the bandits from their enclave before this recent attack.

According to him, they started shooting sporadically, burning down houses and farmlands.


The source added that the ten bodies of those killed had been recovered from the bush while the volunteers and hunters as well as security operatives were still combing bushes.

The police spokesman said seven people were killed and five others injured during the attack, while he also disclose that mobile policemen have been deployed to the communities to apprehend the bandits and forestall further attacks.

Also the Armed bandits burnt houses and grains stock of the affected villages.

On their part, the Birnin Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, a group of indigenes of Birnin-Gwari both home and in Diaspora in a statement posited that "the affected villages are in need of aid, such as food, shelter and clothes".

While commending the effort of the state and federal government towards addressing the prevailing insecurity in the area, he called on them to put in more efforts to tackle the problem once and for all.
