Sergio Aguero says he will probably never play alongside close friend Lionel Messi at club level as he is staying at Manchester City and his compatriot will never leave Barcelona.

"Sincerely, before there was that possibility", Aguero said.

"Before there were possibilities but we are now at an age where Leo is going to end up being at Barcelona and for now, I will end up staying at City".

But the Argentina worldwide has been back to his best this season, scoring 30 goals to become the club's all-time record scorer despite a number of injury setbacks.

Aguero, who has also been linked with a return to Atletico Madrid, admits Barca wanted him but he remains committed to City for the time being.

Aguero's father recently told newspaper Ole that "it's possible" the pair could yet play together at club level (h/t Aaron Flanagan of the Mirror).

Aguero is now contracted with City until 2020.

When quizzed further about his knee surgery ahead of this summer's World Cup, Aguero revealed he believes he would have missed the tournament without the doctors' necessary intervention.

"After five years, my knee feels like new", Aguero told TyC Sports.

"The truth is that I've been suffering with my knee since 2013", he said. "I've always had problems but now I feel different, I can bend it and it's a relief".

Starsport understands Aguero has held talks with City boss Pep Guardiola and pledged his immediate future to the Premier League champions.

"For example, for the last five years I couldn't flex my knee all the way and now I can do it".
